“My lord.” Mordarach looks behind him to See his general’s head bowed low and kneeling before him. He was truly surprised, why would Lucien be here?

“What is it Lucien?” Turning from his viewing glass of the mortal world, always searching for his next bond. What demon wouldn’t be searching? Well, maybe Paris wouldn’t as he was the Demon Lord of Narcissism. The younger lord was definitely full of himself, narcissism was unnecessary for the boy. And yes, he did say boy as Mordarach himself has been alive since Lucifer was in service as an Archangel and followed her when she descended from the heavens. Many believed she was cruel and greedy, but history was written by the corrupted and deceptive Angels. He had followed Lucifer because he believed in her cause. Humans deserved to experience true feelings; love, loss, anger, happiness, sadness. The list can go on and he was no saint as his hand was the cause for many of the mortals grief and horror. As he was the Demon Lord of Death. His sword was the one that swung to end a life that was truly suffering and hated himself for it. But he was chosen for this role and walked the path long ago.

He stared at his general, curiosity strong as the lad raised his head to meet his gaze. “Lady Lucifer and Lord Hades have called for the Twelve to appear. War is coming, twelve bonds have been found my lord.”

Location: The Black Family Estate in Athens, Greece.

Mordecai and his family landed gently upon the walkway of the Black’s Greek estate called the Mávros Spíti, thankfully it was unplottable but then again all of their homes were. It was to protect not just themselves, but their children and those that have been with the family for centuries.

Kreslyn runs towards the Black Triplets; almost tackling them all down in her excitement at finally going to an actual magic school and still receive the tutoring all of her friends started when they became 7 years old as they were only allowed to use their parents wands under supervision by their parents, their maids, or their butlers. “Oh my Gods and Goddesses, are you guys excited?? We haven’t been to this Wizarding Community before, I can’t wait to see how it differs from Diagon Alley. Is everyone here yet?” Hearing two soft thumps from behind her, Kreslyn who had been talking a mile a minute turned to look and saw the Weasley Twins.

“Hey! You guys made it! Where’s your dad?” Harrison and his siblings; Orion and Hermione, were curious too as to why their dad wasn’t there but then a thought passed through their minds. Did Banshee Prewett stop him from taking his sons to somewhere new and exciting?

Mordecai frowned slightly and faced the twins, concern etched across his features as the entire Alliance knew how strained the relationship between Fred and George and their mother has grown over the years. Almost to the point where the entire Alliance was going to drag her to court if she sent them all one more Howler.

Fred and George along with their familiars glanced at each other before turning to their friends, “Our mother was being a banshee again. Demanding either she comes with us or we don’t come at all. But thanks to these puppies; and no we aren’t talking about Plue and Burple, but the emergency portkeys you had given us, Lord Sauvage.” Everyone smirked first at the names being silly but totally Gred and Forge type of thing, they also smirked at how formal and polite they sounded to Kreslyn’s dad. Aside from their mother, the Weasley twins were very respectful to all the adults of the Alliance and out in public when they would go hunting for their school supplies for the year.

Kreslyn looked over at the Black siblings and they all grin, recalling with perfect clarity about the one time they did decide to go with their mother shopping for their school supplies and had been banned from Diagon Alley when summer break came around again. Giggles and slightly snickering was heard throughout the kids while the adults just shook their heads.

More pops, thumps and voices soon joined the Sauvage Clan, the twins and the Black Triplets; signifying the rest of their crazy bunch had arrived as well as the Lord and Lady Black with their own servants appeared behind their children. “Welcome everyone! It’s great to see you all here in beautiful Greece, shall we do the school shopping first and then spend the last few days of summer adventuring?” Lily smiled as all of those going to Hogwarts this year all ‘calmly’ said yes; meaning yelling in excitement. Kreslyn attaches herself to Hermione, her best friend since diapers and whispers softly in her ear, “Still have that crush on Augustus? Because I heard from a little birdie, he likes you too!” She teased the brown-eyed girl, making Hermione turn bright red and gets a jab into her rib cage from her friend.
“I wouldn’t be talking Lyn, since we all know you’re crushing on my brother Orion.” Hermione whisper-hissed back causing her best friend to be the one to blush now, only in the end both girls resembled tomatoes. The parents of all the kids mentioned smirked at each other over the kids heads and shook their heads. The two girls thought they were quiet enough to not be heard; at least the two that held their affections didn’t hear thanks to the quick thinking of their personal servants.

“No time like the present, let’s all head out. Now remember kids, stay close to us and your maids and butlers. New city, new country. Plus they’re going to be your private tutors while you all are at school. So be prepared to find subjects that you know Hogwarts will fail to either teach and or provide.” Mordecai placed his hand upon his eldest daughter’s shoulder.

Day Or Night?

17 min read
"Today is the day where your future is decided. Where you will join our ranks and learn from your teacher on how to be a warrior. Now, shall we go forth and hear your life partner's call? Listen not with your ears, but your heart, mind and soul. Listen and hear them, raise eachother. Protect one another."

Kaed's eyes were bright with anticipation as he stands in line with the rest of his age group. Even though they were young, where some would say children shouldn't meddle with things like this. It was the way of his people to find their dragon and protect the realm of men, elves, dwarves and other's yet unknown to his young mind. Like those before him, he and his brethren started their training at the age of five. Human and elves would say children but none could ride or link with a dragon like his kind could. Halflings were the ones who could live through the linking process and thrive.

It mattered not if you were half-human/elf, half-dwarf/human, half-elf/dwarf. Think he had even seen some darker halfings, but never bothered asking who their parentage was as it was considered rude.

"Step forth and enter the halls of dragons. You have one day, if you are not chosen by one...There are still other destinies for you out there." The elder looked at the bright young faces and felt her age more than she looked it. 500 years of this and still, she enjoyed this ceremony the most as the children stepped towards the large double doors bearing the symbol chosen long ago by the first guardian, two dragons flying in circular motion around half a moonstone and half a sunstone. "Remember, the dragon that calls to you also marks where you shall guard. The bright daylight hours or the endless cold night."

Kaed's pointed tipped ears twitched at those words, where would he be in the next few hours? A night or day guardian or a mundane forever living the boring life of a common born. A shudder runs through his body as he follows the group to the doors and watches in awe as two dragons, larger than even the doors, appeared with their riders by their sides to open the door for the young ones.

"Good luck, and fly to your future. We shall see you all tomorrow." The elder's words were followed by the loud booming sound of the doors closing behind the group, causing a few of them to jump in fright while other's faces went pale as the moon was white. Kaed straightened his back and stepped to the front of everyone, his eyes straining to see in the dimmed light.

'Please...Please let one call to me. I cannot go to the mundane life of farming or scholars, mining or selling wares or goods.'

〰〰〰〰〰〰〰

"So cousin, what dragon do you think you'll be getting?" Kaed turns his head towards a golden haired boy next to him, Jakob was his cousin on his father's side and looked more like his father's son than he ever would. Kaed clearly took after his mother with his gray eyes and dark auburn brown hair that curled down to his neck.

"Well..Aside from mother being the only night guardian in our family, I suspect I shall be like Da and be a day guardian." A slight pang thrummed through his chest at the thought, he didn't want to be like Da and the rest of the clan. Day guardian's were the laziest of all warriors, evening is when the monsters of old and folklore came out and attacked villages, travelers, and lands that no army protected. Plus, the night guards faced off against their enemies that rode on dark creatures, wyverns. Supposedly they descended from the same creators as dragons but their foul nature struck fear in even the most sternest of hearts. Legends say that when you hear the wyvern screech, death was a blessing.

Kaed looks around at the group that accompanied him, some faces were paler and seemed to glow in the dark while others, likely part Orc or dark elf blended into the shadows with only their eyes bright and shining from the soft glow of the torches. 'Halflings...We are all halflings of different beings. There's even half giant children here, dwarves. They'll be land dragon guardian's for sure.'

A rustling sound of movement from his left caught his attention as a girl with white blonde hair and a beauty that would mature through the years to come, walked to the front of the group, with a determined look upon her face as she headed towards of a nest of dark colored eggs and carefully picked up one.

"She's a brave one eh, Kaed?" Jakob joked softly as his head turned towards the light colored eggs that were nested on their left, "I hear...Him. Cousin, good luck and fly high as a star." Kaed chuckles as his cousin strode on his tiny legs towards the eggs of day guardian dragons while he turned his gaze towards the dark colored eggs, a frown appearing on his face as he felt his feet walk on their own past them, his eyes lingering longingly on the eggs. 'Please...Please let one call to me.' He thought as he watched half Giants pick up large eggs from both sides of the hall, half dwarves all chose dragons from the shadows except one as the rosey-cheek, beardless wonder chose an egg the color of morning mists from the light eggs.

Kaed bites his bottom lip in worry as not a single egg called to him from the nests surrounding the youngsters and he walked farther away from the group, his eyes flickering to the left and to the right as he passed more nests with not a single feeling or calling towards any of the eggs. What if his brother's were right and he was to be the only of his parents to be a mundane. He softly scoffs at the idea, surely the Gods wouldn't be that cruel to the youngest son and only heir to his mother's fiefdom of Winterhold. Since his brother's followed their father's guardian path and were chosen as Day Guardians, they had to forfeit their claims for their mother's lands. Only a night guardian was allowed to be lord or lady for Winterhold as his ancestors decreed many ages ago.

His ears twitch as a soft chiming seems to sound through the air but as he looked around, nothing and no one was anywhere near him. How far had he wandered whilst lost in his mind's rambling? Looking for a lit torch, Kaed finally noticed that there were no torch holders around him. A quick scratch on the top of his head and a small sigh of defeat, he turns on his heel to leave and rejoin the others when the chime sounded again. "What in the world?" He whispered as he twisted his head around to try and see in the darkness that seemed to grow more dense by the second. "Why are there no torches here...?" Great, now he was talking to himself. Pathetic, pathetic little Kaed his brother's would say, scared of the darkness he is yet he wishes to be a night guardian. Ha! If he ever was chosen, but....there it was again! Kaed turned in a full circle, his eyes straining in the darkness as he finally spots a faint glow that wasn't there before.

'Hello...what have we here?' He wonders as he walks in the direction of the glow, as the chiming rings once more and it finally clicks in his mind. A dragon egg! One finally called to him!! Unless it was the elder trying to call him back... No. NO! It was the egg, it had to be. Straightening as much as he could at the tender age of 5, Kaed strode quickly over to the now constant chiming egg, "Hello there." He whispered softly as he glances about, noticing that all the nests surrounding this one were empty.

'Could it be? Could I be the second night guardian of our family? Like mum?' The excitement on his face blossomed into a full out grin as one egg stood alone among nests that were empty and looked like it had been years since they were last tended too. 'Why is this the only one? Did the rest already choose their Knights? Or did they die?' Carefully Kaed reaches into the nest to lift up the egg that warmed immediately upon his touch. Soon as he held the egg close, he began to notice that it was a darker gold color, "Now aren't you an odd one...Shouldn't you be with the lighter colored eggs? Or at least with the other eggs anyways? All alone over here." He gently rubs the egg, finally noticing the cold feeling coming off the egg. "You're like ice! No one around to keep you warm eh buddy? Well no more of that. I got you now."

"Those who have been chosen, please come join us in the antechamber so we may introduce to you your warrior or knight master, while you may visit home on your days off. You're to no longer live with your family till you pass your training." Kaed twitched as the elder's voice sounded directly behind him, 'Bloody old lady moves quiet.' He thought as he turned back towards the double doors he had walked through to find his dragon. A warmth blooms in his chest as he gently rubs the egg in his arms, he was chosen. His older brothers had been wrong, he wouldn't have to become a farmer or a scholar, or any of those other mundane tasks that were set for those who were not chosen to be a guardian.

Kaed stops in the middle of the chamber, watching as those who were chosen followed after him and hid his surprise well as less than what had entered the hallowed halls with him now joined him as future guardians. "Jakob...Only 15 of us were chosen? So the rumors are true...The chosen have dropped in numbers. Da and Uncle Brandan were right.." Jakob nods and settles next to him, his dragon egg a soft pink rested comfortably in his arms. "Aw, look what a pretty color, perfect for you cousin." Kaed laughs softly as Jakob lightly bumps their shoulders together.

"Oh and what about yours there Kaed? Why such an odd color? Looks like you'll be a day guardian for sure with that egg." Jakob watches as his cousin goes from happy to upset, "What's wrong? Our whole family aside from Aunt Lysandra are day guardian's. Plus after training we might get to be in the same squadron, Papa always says family is better to have at your back then an unknown ally who could clip your dragons wings. It's a world where you can only count on family to have your back, especially night guardian's. Don't know how your mum does it, working with her squadron."

Kaed schools his features at the mention of his mother's squadron, Jakob didn't know that his mama's squadron was like family. Uncle's and Aunts that weren't their blood but family all the same.

"Enough chatting and goofing off." The elder slammed the staff she held against the tiled floor, making every kid jump at the loud noise it made. "It is time for those eggs to hatch and your knight master's to choose who they wish to train." Clearing her throat, the elder holds out the staff horizontally in front of her and starts chanting the spell that would waken their dragons from the eggs and show where their future lies.

Kaed's eyes light up to a silvery hue as the magic pulses from the elder and feels his egg shake against him and an almost unbearable heat begins to sear his hands, causing them to stick to the egg as his dragon's marking brands him along with the guadrian's symbol.

He winces from a sudden high pitched whistling or screech that pierced through the air as their eggs start cracking and lights flicker out of the egg, each beam of light blinds a child as they stared in wonderment at their dragons being born. As it suddenly started, it soon stopped with the last of chimes ringing through the air and Kaed stared into the golden eyes of his chosen. 'Wait...It was a dark egg, why is she golden..?' The dragon studied him as they stared at one another, while the other future guardian's gave cries of excitement or squeals of happiness as the elder walked over, "Kaed, what color was your chosen's egg?"

"Dark with a golden-like hue, elder. What does this mean?" Kaed looked up at the elder of his race and who was also his grandmother, worry clear on his face as she smiled at him and rested her hand on his shoulder. "If that is the case...You are just as your mother was Kaed, a dark Guardian. Serve your realm as we have taught you." She whispered in his ear before straightening up and bangs her staff hard on the floor, "Younglings, it is time for you to meet your potential knight master. Step forth guardian's! Choose those who shall learn our ways in your capable hands." She squeezes Kaed's shoulder in support before walking towards the raised platform where her chair resides as young and old knights streamed in through another door leading to the outside.

Kaed looks around and sees his whole family, he knew they couldn't choose him for he would need a night guardian same as him. His heart dropped a little as he saw his mother choose the pale haired girl with a dragon as dark as the night cuddled under her arms. It was disheartening that his mother couldn't train him but he would have to look forward for his knight master could be of someone with great importance. After all, his family were the greatest of....Day guardians. Drat! His face scrunches up in annoyance, only his mother and her squadron were famous but none of the others had kids his age so their legacy hasn't grown like his father's side.

"Kaed, get your mind out of the clouds lad and look behind ye." Kaed slowly turned around to see a large outline of a man hidden in the shadows, the only thing you could see were his short sword handles, one resting on each hip with a paw of a hand resting on the right side.

"Wh-who are you?" Kaed grimaced at his stutter and tried to stand taller as the man moved from the shadows to stand before him. 'Oh no, not him anyone but him.' Kaed thought as a sinister grin graced the man's face, "Your knight master, young Kaed. I'm Lord Kaiser. You may call sir or my lord as your title for now is just heir and not yet above me." Kaed just glared at the old guy in front of him, okay Lord Kaiser wasn't that old. Just 3,000 years old since halflings age slower than most humanoid forms. Although he looked 5 years of age physically in human years, Kaed was nearly 80 in halfing years. His mind and magic expanded with his wisdom and continued to grow.

Kaiser sneered down at the Youngling he was charged with, why did he ever let Lysandra talk him into training this wet behind the ears pup. "Well, does your chosen have a name yet boy?" Kaed shakes his head at his knight master then looks down at the Rose golden like dragon, "No, M'lord. I have yet to name my chosen." Hearing his lord make a noise of discontent at his response made Kaed squirm and looks down at his feet in shame. "Well boy, name your bluidy dragon and let's get on with it. You may be young in body as it comes from your Da but you're strong in magic like your ma. It is my job to teach you to use the bow as your halfling elf side excels at it but we need to find a weapon that is chosen just for you when you fight battles for our Kingdom."

Kaed looks at his hatchling and frowns lightly as a soft tinkling giggle bubbles from his dragon, "You're a light dragon born to be a night guardian with me...How about Sunfall?" A happy chirp sounds from the Rose golden hued dragon, making Kaed nod in satisfaction before jumping a foot in the air as Kaiser lays his large paw of a hand on his shoulder, guiding the young halfling out of the antechamber.

"From here on it'll be the six of us lad. You, me, my dragon, your dragon and our two steeds. When Sunfall grows up like you, you cannot always rely on her to be your ride everywhere. She looks like she'll grow into a formidable and fearsome beauty but carrying a load can tire even the stoutest of beasts anywhere. I shan't be starting you with real iron or steel made weapons, but with a wooden weapon to find your weapon of choice. It'll be an extension of you, just as your magic and dragon. When you are not trying to find your weapon, or training when weapon is found. We will work on your magick and control of of such things."

Kaed looked up in a bit of surprise at his knight master's words, only some rumors were spread about the silent warrior of his mother's squadron while his mother has often spoke of the man with respect and how she had often relied on him to have her back when fighting on the ground or sky.
"Yes, my lord, how will I know what is my weapon? Is it like when sunfall called to me? Or will I just...know?"

Kaiser's black eyes stared down at his charge and scratched at the beard that was forming on his face as he had just returned from a mission that their lord had demanded be done before the next choosing ceremony. "It's different for everyone, axes are usually chosen by halflings with a dwarf descendent, clubs for the orcs, hammers for the Giants. Swords for humans like me with a faint half side of an elf who is my father. But there are more just those, yes a bow will be part of what you learn because you have the skill but you need a weapon in case you find yourself into close range battle, do you understand me lad?" Kaiser lets out a small huff of a laugh as Kaed nods his head rather quickly that he head butted his young dragon, "Well then...Are you sure you're Lysa's boy? Maybe you inherited your father's not so brilliant smarts and idiocy tendencies."

Kaiser gestures towards Kaed's family who came to see the newly chosen. "Go say good bye to your family. You shan't be seeing them till you are ready to take your place in our world as a Guardian." Kaed looked towards his family before hesitantly stepping towards them, barely noticing that the pale haired girl stood beside his mother.

"I guess this is goodbye? I understand that we aren't allowed to see eachother again till
